Sometimes living on a tourist area is a blessing and a drag all at the same time. Blessing because there are infinite reasons why you’ll love the place and would want to live here. Dragging, for a few reasons, traffic is bad, rude tourists and hit/miss restaurants when it comes to food and customer service. But hey, don’t let that get you down; that’s all part of the peak season.

I’ve come to realize that living here won’t help me appreciate the place if I keep bashing how horrible the little things that gets into my nerve. Since I’ve started OBX by Request, I wanted to give fellow locals a chance to explore our little town and appreciate it more by imparting what I do best on food critiquing, writing, traveling and expressing these passion through my lens.
The Sweet Life – La Dolce Vita Corolla
I came across this hidden gem in the heart of Corolla, North Carolina right at the Tim Buck II Shopping Center when I once featured a restaurant with the same name but completely not affiliated with them, which is at the southernmost part of Outer Banks. Long story short, it got me curious. Just to name the restaurant coincidentally the same must mean they both offer unique great food or might be even better. So I asked La Dolce Vita Corolla if they’re willing to be featured for our weekly Food Review Friday. Gladly they responded to our request and it got me all excited.

This is the first time that we are going to feature a restaurant in Corolla, North Carolina. The market here is a little different, more sophisticated and family-oriented. The husband already noticed through customers that this place serves awesome food, people come and go and seats get filled up by the minute despite the limited space of the restaurant; lines of people wait up in the front door to get seated.

Food
We were served with homemade hearth bread with basil pesto and ordered the famous Penne Bolognese and Arugula and Orange Salad with Grilled Chicken. Everything looks simple yet you would know it was carefully prepared and made with so much passion. I always thought being married to my husband from an Italian descent has been the greatest because he makes good pasta sauce until we’ve tasted their homemade sauce which is a handed-down Italian family recipe according , Barbara Marzetti (One of the co-owners of La Dolce Vita). By far, the best tasting pasta sauce ever. The Salad on the other hand is beautifully arranged to where you would dig it and all the flavors just pop in your mouth. The orange with the goat cheese and the vinaigrette balances the taste of the arugula and the grilled chicken. The meal was superb especially knowing that our little one had a taste of both and enjoyed it. Kudos to Co-Owners Anne-Marie Marzetti and Chef Jared Rosa.

Service
La Dolce Vita Corolla is on its second year of operations this year and according to Barbara Marzetti, they’ve pretty much kept the same people from last year. They pride on having the best staff here in Outer Banks, eloquent if I may describe it and very friendly, couldn’t agree more. The restaurant radiates a happy work environment that is why you get 101% quality customer service.

Ambiance
I like the feel of this place, not your typical beach box restaurant. There were details that made it different and gave that Italian feel to the place. If people would pay attention to the pictures on the wall, Barbara said, it was pictures from where Anne-Marie’s grandmother grew up in Italy. I love the modern yet quaint interior which makes for that fine-casual Italian restaurant.

Location
La Dolce Vita Corolla is located at 798 C Sunset Blvd., Tim Buck II Shopping Village, Corolla, North Carolina. They are open Monday to Sunday 11:00am-3:00pm for Lunch and 5:00pm-9:00pm for Dinner.

When they said they are all about the family, friends, good food and friendly service, they weren’t kidding. A friendly place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy, La Dolce Vita Corolla, Have a taste of the sweet life!
